Recovery of dialkylimidazolium-based ionic liquids from their mixtures with acetone or water by flash distillation

In a number of applications for which novel processes based on ionic liquids have been proposed, the recovery liquid from its mixture with molecular solvent is step critical importance viability process. this work, feasibility and conditions such by simple flash vapourisation explored particular case three dialkylimidazolium-based (namely 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate ([C2mim][SCN]), acetate ([C2mim][OAc]), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium ([C4mim][OAc])) either acetone or water as representative solvents industrial relevance. The isobaric vapour-liquid equilibria binary systems + ([C2mim][SCN] [C4mim][OAc]) ([C2mim][OAc] determined at different pressures (101.32, 50.00, 30.00 25.00 kPa), data suitably correlated means NRTL thermodynamic model. These correlations used in software Aspen Plus development reliable simulations unit to perform desired separations. results indicate difficulty getting recovered high purity, even if operating pressure low 5 kPa temperatures close range where thermal stability starts get compromised.
